Information Technology and Media Services (ITMS) enhance the experience of students and staff in learning, teaching, research, and business operations. We provide guidance and support services on the adoption of appropriate technologies, systems and services in a rapidly developing Digital environment, helping people to embrace technology as it becomes embedded within university life. Our mission is to provide effective, efficient, and economic IT and Media Services to empower and enable people to make the best of their time at De Montfort University (DMU). The AV Estate at De Montfort University has had significant investment over the last 10 years. Increasing the quality and capability of AV in teaching spaces through annual rolling replacements, Estates Department led refurbishments and new build projects. We use industry leading technologies such as Dante Domain Manager, Crestron Fusion, Microsoft Teams Rooms (MTR’s) and AI auto-tracking cameras for lecture capture in lecture theatres. 

Role 

The successful candidate will play a vital role within our team, contributing to the design, installation, support, and maintenance of fixed AV equipment in over 500 spaces throughout the University. These spaces include classrooms, PC labs, lecture theatres, meeting rooms, and specialized areas. This role is primarily focused on delivering support, maintenance, and rapid resolution of reported issues concerning AV systems on-site. This involves aiding staff in utilising AV equipment effectively and promptly responding to high-priority callouts in teaching spaces. Responsibilities encompass in-depth investigation and fault troubleshooting, covering all aspects of the AV installation. This includes scrutinising physical wiring, network settings, and device configurations such as Switchers, Distribution Amps, Digital Sound Processors, Audio Mixers & PreAmps, Video Scalers, EDID Handlers, and HDMI Extenders. The role also involves replacing faulty hardware and conducting functional tests and checks. Operating at a high level of specialisation, our service utilises cutting-edge audio-visual technologies supported by industry-standard training and qualifications. We encourage our staff to undertake certifications such as Avixa CTS, Extron Associate, Extron ProDSP Specialist, Crestron Technician Fundamentals, and CompTIA Network+ to ensure proficiency in delivering excellence within our AV services. Ideal Candidate 

The ideal candidate for this role will demonstrate a robust understanding and practical experience across various domains, including AV control systems, AV wiring (covering balanced/unbalanced audio, hot/cold, RS232, RJ45/DTP/DM, terminating, and soldering), HDMI, DisplayPort, and USB standards, EDIDs & HDCP, AV schematics and technical drawings, as well as video/audio transmission and routing. Moreover, the candidate should exhibit proficiency in IT networking, encompassing subnets & VLANs, and possess expertise in utilising the Office 365 suite, including SharePoint & Microsoft Teams. A strong background in IT/AV troubleshooting skills is essential, coupled with a proven track record of effectively operating in a customer-facing role. The ideal candidate will approach challenges with a technical mindset, displaying enthusiasm for continuous learning and a commitment to investigating and resolving problems. As a strong team player, they will collaborate effectively with others, demonstrating the ability to balance priorities within their workload to meet demanding requirements. Organisational skills and a prompt response to changing requirements are expected qualities, all while maintaining a consistently high level of customer service. The candidate should bring hands-on experience supporting fixed audio-visual systems in a large Higher Education environment, particularly with hardware from major manufacturers such as Crestron and Extron. Furthermore, the ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive knowledge of current audio-visual technologies and IT, showcasing an ability to stay abreast of changes to DMU AV systems.
