The Opportunity
Manchester Metropolitan University is seeking a Technical Facility Manger to join our team, This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in managing our new Robotics Living Lab housed within the Manchester Fashion Institute.
The Role
As a Technical Facility Manager you will:
Work closely with Prof. Postlethwaite to provide technical support and ensure the appropriate management, future planning, and smooth running of the Robotics Living Lab.
Provide significant input and leadership into projects within the Robotics Living Lab and be responsible for delivering world class research outputs alongside supporting the development of funding applications.
Support the development of; end effector tools for 6 axis cobot technologies for fashion/ garment manufacture, agile technologies and further iterations of e.g., cutting tools alongside supporting the development and crossover of coding from Fashion specific programs to robotic technologies
Support the development and crossover of coding from fashion specific programmes to robotic technologies
About you
To succeed at this role you will possess
Excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships and establish networks with internal and external contacts and influence stakeholders
Excellent project management skills with the ability to meet project deadlines and influence outcomes under changing circumstances
Excellent management skills with an ability to work with your initiative and demonstrate a willingness to lead and have the ability to inspire and motivate others.
The ability to work under pressure and juggle competing priorities effectively
You must also demonstrate extensive technical knowledge of
Robotics and mechatronics including control and automation
Automation and robotic systems including awareness and understanding of technologies related to safety, robot programming, computer vision and path planning
Emerging and state-of-the-art and commercially available cobot/robot technologies
Technical skills in collaborative robotics/ tooling solutions/ Experience with software development for automation and robotics (e.g., Python, ROS)

You will be part of a large and diverse Technical Team that works in specialist laboratories, workshops, studios and IT facilities, our technical professionals play a key role supporting, guiding, and advising across our university from sciences, engineering, art, design and technology, through to sports, ceramics, nursing and physiotherapy.
