Technical Officer – Biological Sciences
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the technical team within Manchester Metropolitan University as a technical officer.

Our diverse team of technicians ensure that the University functions efficiently and delivers the levels of student experience both our undergraduates and postgraduates deserve and expect of us. Working in specialist laboratories, workshops, studios and digital facilities, our technical professionals play a key role supporting, guiding, and advising across our university from sciences, art, engineering, design, and technology, through to sports, nursing and teacher training.

The role
You will be an active member of the technical services team, applying knowledge and skills in our Biological Sciences team. Focusing on supporting excellence in education and research provision. Working flexibly and collaboratively across professional services and the academy to providing specialist knowledge and skills to a variety of laboratories and workshops.
You will be expected to have specialist working knowledge of applications and techniques relating to Biological Sciences. You will be capable of providing specialist technical advice, training, and instruction as part of the teaching team. You will also take responsibility for the operation and maintenance of complex equipment and assisting the technical manager in ensuring safety standards are met and adhered to.
About you
You will be able to work both independently and as part of a team and capable of delivering induction sessions to laboratory and workshop users.
You will have a flexible approach to work and an ability to work on your own initiative.
You will be expected to learn how to safely operate and demonstrate a wide variety of laboratory or workshop equipment.
You will have strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to service excellence.
