We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Technical Specialist to join our dynamic technical operations team, which strives to provide a sector leading technical support for FSE and the wider University. With a commitment to customer service excellence and a passion for science and engineering, the Technical Specialist will provide an agile technical support service to staff and students to support teaching, research and professional services. FSE’s research and teaching quality is recognised globally; this is an exciting opportunity to join us in Manchester and contribute to the provision of a sector leading technical service.
The Advanced Photonics and Manufacturing Platform builds upon the innovative, creative, practical and research capabilities of our enterprising technical staff. The platform aims to accelerate interdisciplinary research and teaching by recognising the intrinsic synergies in the experimental workflows of Natural Science and Engineering. The Photon Science Institute (PSI) is a multidisciplinary research centre in which physicists, chemists, engineers and material scientists use light to enable science as well as to develop new ways of generating, manipulating and detecting it.
Interview's are expected to take place between 16th - 27th of September.
The purpose of this role is to:
Ensure the effective running of the Photon Science Institute (PSI) laser facilities. The PSI is an evolving, dynamic organisation and the appointee will therefore be expected to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to meet its developing needs.
Apply laser expertise to provide a world class service in delivering standard experimental techniques.
Engage with and develop new methods and methodologies in line with advances in technology and research needs.
Assist in ensuring safe and efficient operation of experimental facilities throughout the platform by working as a proactive member of the technical operations team.
