The University of Southampton is seeking to employ a Research Technician in the Faculty of Medicine within the Lung Fibrosis Group of the Faculty of Medicine led by Professor Mark Jones. The post will contribute to translational science research into lung fibrosis.
The successful candidate will be based in the Brooke Laboratory at University Hospital Southampton. The role will involve human lung tissue analyses, 3D cell culture (including primary cells), analysis of cell responses by molecular and cellular techniques including ELISA, RT-qPCR, and manipulation of cells by pharmacological and gene knock-out/knock-in techniques. Relevant training will be provided included in primary lung and 3D cell culture approaches. Further duties will include data processing and presentation, report writing, monitoring and purchasing of lab consumables, generating and maintaining laboratory documentation and records, processing of biological and chemical waste; and ensuring adherence to all pertinent health & safety policies. It is expected that the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate proficiency in these areas.
The ideal candidate will have at least NVQ3/HNC/A level/City and Guilds in a relevant area. Previous experience in a molecular/cell biology research laboratory is essential. Previous experience of cell culture and molecular biology techniques such as RT-qPCR, ELISA, and Western blotting is essential.
The ideal candidate will be able to adapt to working with a variety of techniques across different laboratories, working efficiently and diligently, with a strong work ethic, initiative, and enthusiasm. They will be team-oriented, with excellent organisational skills, and reliable. The successful applicant must have excellent spoken and written English communication skills.
This is a full time fixed term role until 31st July 2025 in the first instance, with the possibility to then extend to 24 months.
