An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Core Facility Technical Team at Manchester Metropolitan University as a Mass Spectrometry Technical Specialist. About the Role:
As a Technical Specialist, you will:
Work independently in your mass spectrometry specialist area, taking responsibility for a designated workspace and the provision of an excellent service;
Promote the specialism internally and externally to ensure wide exposure leading to utilisation and engage in collaborative projects;
Work with stakeholders to develop new methods to support research projects;
Be responsible for the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of specialist equipment in your area;
Devise innovative solutions to complex technical problems;
Train service users in the use of specialist equipment and software.
About you:
To succeed in this role, you will possess:
Significant knowledge in the fundamental principles and theory of mass spectrometers;
Extensive experience in operating and maintenance of a wide range of mass spectrometers (e.g. LC-MS, GC-MS, tandem and high-resolution instrumentation) and ancillary equipment;
Experience of developing new methods and quality control;
Ability to use software relating to mass spectrometry e.g. MassHunter, MassLynx etc
Personal attributes:
Ability to collect, organise and synthesise complex data from different sources;
Be customer focussed with excellent communication skills;
Flexible, collaborative, and committed to inclusive research practices;
Be pro-active, motivated, resourceful and able to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team;
Ability to effectively manage time whilst keeping to a schedule of work and be organised in documenting progress.
