Working in Partnership Forum meets to explore best practice across the technical sector

The Working in Partnership Forum met earlier this month, at Newcastle University to explore best practice across the technical sector.

Representatives from Newcastle University, the NTDC, the University of York, MI Talent, and Advance HE provided updates on the implementations their organisations are making to support the Technician Commitment, using examples of sector development opportunities and cross-institutional project working.

Formed in 2018 by Newcastle University staff members, Linda Robinson, Organisational Development Lead, and Mel Leitch, Deputy Head of Infrastructure, the forum recognises that technicians can be much more effective in implementing  sector-wide changes when they work in partnership.

Speaking at the forum, Alison Gregory, Technical manager at Newcastle University, discussed her experience of applying for Associate fellowship with higher education charity Advance HE. She encouraged other technicians who support teaching to also apply as it enhances personal and professional development.

MI Talent provided insight on the Herschel Programme which focuses on supporting women in technical leadership, whilst organisational updates also came from the NTDC, and the Carbon Operational Net Zero (CONZ) project - a cross-university led initiative.

Mel Leitch, NTDC Director and host of the Working in Partnership Forum was thrilled with the engagement and feedback from representatives, noting the positive effect that all those in the sector are both creating and enjoying.
