December 2025
As we come to the end of another successful year at the NTDC, we are delighted to reflect on the strength of our work with colleagues across our Partner Affiliate Network and the wider technical community.
Over the past year, we attended more than 20 technical events, working with and for technical staff across the sector. We were pleased to advertise over 150 job vacancies for partner affiliates free of charge and welcomed 285 technical staff to our events, both online and in person.
We were proud to relaunch the Technician Development Fund, enabling more technicians to access more support. Since October, we have funded nine technical staff to expand their professional development and overcome barriers facing the sector in the current landscape. We look forward to reopening the fund in January 2026.
Supporting institutions to unlock the full potential of their technical workforce remains central to our mission. Through workforce planning, CPD and career development, we continue to deliver The Survey across the UK. This year, we were also pleased to begin work internationally, delivering The Survey at our second Australian university in Sydney. The Survey now includes a database of approximately 4,500 individual technical skills and provides a comprehensive overview of technical capability, career aspirations and development needs.
Find out more about The Survey here.
Looking ahead, we are pleased to announce the date of our next NTDC Partner Forum: 16 April 2026, hosted at The University of Sheffield. This one-day conference will take on a ‘Technician Takeover’ theme, and we warmly encourage technician involvement. If you would like to contribute to the poster session, please contact enquiries@ntdc.ac.uk. Registration is now open, with the full programme announced in early 2026.
In 2025, the HETT Framework underwent significant development and now includes both Education and Research Promotion Pathways. A major milestone this year was the launch of the Education Technical Professional (ETP) Pathway — an achievement made possible through the dedication of our Partners, Steering Group, Working Group, and the Institute of Science and Technology.
