NEW PATHWAY LAUNCH: NTDC National Education Technical Professional (ETP) Pathway
25 August 2021
With our increasing awareness of the effects single-use plastic has on the planet, universities are looking for ways to reduce their plastic waste. Lab Technician Lisa McMillan and Technical Assistant Jo Brown at Edinburgh Napier have spent the last three years developing strategies to help institutes reduce their single-use plastic.
In 2018 Lisa and Jo decided they had to try to make the SAS labs’ plastic recyclable. They spent many hours in their spare time researching and designing a strategy.
At the start of 2019, they presented to the University’s Staff Sustainability Network Group. It was a huge success and has led to Lisa and Jo sharing their work with colleagues from other universities across the UK. You may have seen them at our HeATED Regional Network Event held in Belfast. They are continuing to present their work and conferences and networking events across the UK.
Since they introduced the system in the SAS labs, they have sent an impressive 1,500KG of single-use plastic! A fantastic feat and a brilliant step towards a greener future.
