Technical professionals make a vital contribution to the design and delivery of education, supporting student outcomes, satisfaction and employability. The NTDC National Fair Attribution Policy for Education provides a practical framework for ensuring these contributions are fairly and transparently recognised.
The policy is based on parity of esteem, recognising technical professionals as equal partners within the education team. It applies to all technical professionals contributing to the design, delivery and innovation of teaching and learning, regardless of job title.

The policy provides guidance for formally recognising contributions including:
Designing and creating educational content
Teaching, student support and mentorship
Assessment, feedback and evaluation
Technical and technology innovation
Outreach and institutional activities
Contributions to educational research and outputs
It also recommends practical approaches to embedding attribution into institutional practice, including workload and timetabling, teaching materials, career progression, academic credit, strategic decision-making and institutional recognition.

Formal attribution helps make technical contributions visible and provides documented evidence that can support career progression, professional recognition and reward.
For institutions, it supports a collaborative education team and helps demonstrate the contribution of technical professionals to student outcomes, satisfaction and employability.
The policy also supports the Technician Commitment and the NTDC Career and Promotion Pathway Guiding Principles.

The policy was co-created through extensive sector consultation, with contributions from 21 universities, a professional body and businesses, and feedback from more than 250 individuals.
It provides a shared framework for institutions looking to strengthen the visibility and recognition of technical professionals within education.
