NEW PATHWAY LAUNCH: NTDC National Education Technical Professional (ETP) Pathway
As more organisations seek to track the evolution of their technical workforce, the value of revisiting The Survey by the NTDC becomes increasingly clear. Repeating the survey isn’t just a box-ticking exercise - it’s a strategic decision that enables long-term planning, skills tracking, and workforce development.
Running The Survey a second or further time provides rich comparative insights that help identify both skills gained and those at risk of being lost. It supports evidence-based succession planning, highlights training needs, and helps shape clearer career pathways for technical staff. Ultimately, this ensures that the development needs of staff are being met and that institutions can confidently measure how their technical landscape is changing.

Ultimately, this ensures that the development needs of staff are being met and that institutions can confidently measure how their technical landscape is changing.
To support organisations that have previously run the survey, a two-tiered approach has been developed: the Survey Re-run and the Survey Re-build. Both options are offered at discounted rates for returning organisations, with further savings available for those engaged in NTDC Partnership.
The Survey Re-run is designed for organisations that want to replicate their original survey to enable direct comparison with past data. This is the most straightforward route, offering a quicker project turnaround and less planning overhead.
What’s included:
A like-for-like re-run using your original question set and skills base
Light-touch updates to ensure relevance (e.g., sense-checking for changes in structure or responsibilities)
Communications and engagement support
Updated versions of previously supplied reports
3 months of follow-up support to request additional reports from the existing dataset
This approach helps plot development over time, offering a clear snapshot of how your technical workforce has evolved. It’s ideal for organisations looking to update their understanding without significantly altering the scope of the original survey — and it comes at a lower price point.
The Survey Re-build is a more tailored approach, ideal for organisations ready to go deeper. This option grants access to the latest version of The Survey, incorporating extensive updates drawn from wide national engagement and the addition of around 1,000 new skills and six new skills areas.
What’s included:
Access to the newest survey structure and question sets
Full customisation: add your own questions, focus areas, and bespoke elements
Comprehensive project planning support to tailor the survey to your organisation’s current needs
Dynamic reporting tools using Google’s Looker Studio
6 months of custom reporting support, including comparative insights both internally and nationally
The Survey Re-build allows for deeper exploration and broader insights, making it ideal for organisations seeking a more advanced and flexible approach. While this option carries a higher price than the Re-run, it remains significantly more affordable than starting the survey from scratch.
Whether you choose to re-run or re-build, revisiting the Technician Survey is a powerful way to benchmark progress, identify gaps, and drive meaningful development for technical staff. It helps ensure the skills, roles, and pathways within your organisation are aligned with both present demands and future ambitions.
We're here to help you choose the right path and support every step of the process.
